You can take some simple steps to protect and keep your businesses and client’s data secure.
Implement strong and secure passwords
Regularly change your passwords, and do not share them with anyone.
When available, you should use multi-factor authentication, where two forms of identification are required
to access your account, such as text from a phone and password.
Use Passwords with a mix of upper and lower case letters, numbers, and symbols as they are stronger and therefore harder to hack.
Do not use your personal details in a password.
Update your devices
Often vulnerabilities in a device are known and there is an update available to close them.
This applies to all your devices including PDA’s, Computers, Modems and Laptops.
Ensure a suitable person updates your devises and your antivirus regularly to help protect against the latest threats.
Protect your email account with a spam filter
Always be very careful clicking on emails that contain links. Spam filters help protect you against malicious emails but some will still get through.
Sometimes the email you receive will be from someone you know but their account has been compromised.
be especially vigilant for emails directing you to a webpage to change or confirm your details. These are often fraudulent and by typing the address of the company directly into the web address you can ensure you are not viewing a fraudulent page.
USB’s and external hard drives from unfamiliar sources can be dangerous
Don’t plug in USBs and external hard drives you don’t know as they may contain malware.
Your computers could be infected without your knowledge.
Repairing the damage from malware can be costly to your business to repair/remove in time and money.
Information stolen could be used to commit crimes in your business’s name.
